    Turning off automatic updates in your Windows 10 PC allows you to control when and what type of updates are downloaded and installed on your computer.

    In this article, you’ll how you can turn off automatic updates in your Windows 10 computer so that you don’t have to worry about them taking up your disk space.

    How To Stop Automatic Updates In Windows 10 Computer Using Settings

    It is not ideal to permanently stop your Windows Update if you want to prevent it from downloading an update for a specific app or program.

    But, if you want to stop automatic updates in your Windows 10 computer follow the steps below.

    Step: Open Settings

    Click on the Start icon and search and open Settings.

    Step 2: Click on Update & Security

    On the Update & Security screen and select Windows Update.

    Step 3: Select Windows Update

    Choose the Windows Update option, then tap on Pause updates for 7 more days.

    After you’ve done the above steps, your device won’t automatically update during the purse period till the set time elapses.

    Although, you can also change the pause period by clicking on the Advanced options on the Windows Update screen.

    How To Stop Automatic Updates In Windows 10 Via Registry Editor

    Another way to stop automatic updates in your Windows 10 computer is through the Registry Editor.

    It is most ideal to first backup your computer before engaging the procedures below.

    Step 1: Open Registry Editor app

    Go to your Start icon, type in and open the Registry Editor app.

    Step 2: Select HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE

    Select HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > scroll down to Policies > tap Microsoft > then right-click on Windows.

    Step 3: Right-click on Windows Folder

    Right-click on the Windows folder, tap on New from the drop-down option, then select Key option.

    Step 4: Rename the New Key Folder

    When you select Key, a new Key folder will appear for you to rename it. Simply change the name to Windowsupdate and then click the Enter button.

    Step 5: Right-click the Newly Created Key

    After creating the new key (Windowsupdate), right-click on it, select New and then choose the Key option again.

    Step 6: Rename the New Key

    You’ll have to rename the new Key folder. For example, rename it OS and click the Enter button to create another folder for OS.

    Step 7: Right-click on OS

    Right-click on the new OS folder, place your cursor on New and then select DWORD (32-bit) value.

    Step 8: Name the New Key NoAutoUpdate

    Name the new Key NoAutoUpdate and then press the Enter button on your keyboard.

    Step 9: Double-click The newly created Key

    Double-click The newly created Key, change its value from 0 to 1 and then tap OK.

    Step 10: Restart Your Computer

    After doing the above steps, restart your Windows 10 computer.

    Now, your computer will no longer update automatically. Nevertheless, you’ll be able to see latest updates in the Windows Update settings.
